The citizens of New York City are no strangers to the weird, but no one could have anticipated the superheroes (and villains) from comic books becoming a reality. It did, and things have never been the same. Nearly every day, someone new awakens, having lived an entire life as someone else.
No one knows what caused these superheroes (and villains) to appear with no memory of who they were. Some found their lives were more complicated, whether their mortal enemy was now their best friend or Batman was working for the mob.
Though no one knows it, Thanos and a few other powerful entities caused this to happen. Their hold on the world they had created has started to waver, which is what caused these characters to wake up.
- Be respectful. Do not godmod or cross IC/OOC lines. We also don't tolerate harassment or bullying in any capacity. If there's ever an issue you are unable to resolve amongst yourselves, do not hesitate to come to us for help.
- Any NSFW or potentially triggering material should be clearly labeled and placed behind a cut with the appropriate warnings clearly visible.
- Adds & removals will be done once a month unless otherwise noted.
- The character you create will be based on a comic book character. They will be an alternate version of said character—what their life could have without their powers or circumstances. They may have different names, lives, and even personalities. What you choose to recycle or discard is up to you, though their true selves will always be just underneath the surface.
- Any comic book character is welcome. They don't have to be Marvel or DC, as long as they can reasonably fit into a superhero environment.
- PB choices are 100% first come, first serve.
- All PBs must be 18+ and have verifiable credits of some kind (acting, music, sports, modeling, something in the entertainment field). Keep your PB choices within realistic standards. We will not be strictly policing ages but if your choice feels inappropriate for the character, we might ask you to change.
- Challenges (PB or CV) are not allowed.
- We currently have a character limit of four. Please try to keep the comic connection between your characters as limited as possible (e.g. don't bring in Superman and Wonder Woman or Rogue and Gambit).
- You should have a complete biography that includes basic information, history, and information about their CV's abilities and attributes. There's no minimum word count requirement for these as long as they're detailed to give others an idea of who your character is.
- There must be at least three aspects/traits tying your comic book character to your AU character. It can be as subtle or obvious as you choose, but please list these tie-ins separately.
- Usernames should be OOC styled based on your comic character for your journals (e.g. Superman's username could be ~speedingbullet or ~antikryptonite).
- All journals should have backdated friends only and screened OOC posts set up before you apply.
- Make sure your friends list is clear and you have removed other communities (except for ~pbads, ~rps, etc.). Journals used for ~lineart should not be used in other communities.
- If you have been removed for inactivity and reapply within two weeks, you must provide a substantial update upon reapplying.
- When accepted, you will have a week to introduce yourself before you are removed.
- Every calendar month, you are required to provide 2 updates: 1 interactive and 1 substantial (narrative, first person entry, scene). Substantial updates should be at least 500 words (or 3 replies between writers if submitting a scene). These requirements will be adjusted if you happen to be added later in the month. All activity must be submitted to the activity tracker.
- Narratives and scenes outside of requirements can be submitted for incentive points—which will allow you to unlock things for your character as well as things like update passes.
- Extensions and hiatuses will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. You may request them here.
CV Week, otherwise known as “the shift,” will generally occur during the third week of each month. This may change depending on the length of the month—generally, we'd like four weeks between each shift.
During this week, affected characters assume their comicverse identities. How they blend together—whether your AU character is still there, fighting for control, or completely suppressed—is entirely up to you.
The most common symptoms of the shift are confusion, a pounding headache, and memory loss.
At first, the AU characters generally have no awareness of their CV identities unless their CV self has left behind notes or clues. At first, they won't remember where they were or what they did. As time passes, they might start to remember through dreams. Memories might eventually start to bleed through.
The effects of the shift linger after it ends—including property damage, injuries, and other real-world consequences. Day-to-day life continues as normal, only now in a world where the existence of superpowered individuals has been undeniably confirmed.
It is entirely up to you whether your character "shifts" at any given time—unless they have lifted the veil, in which case the comic persona is around now, all the time. That means you can't escape them.
Shifters tend to take many avenues in how they react and live with shifting. Some people never stop shifting, and an unveiling never happens. Some who go through the unveiling process can sometimes find themselves completely and always at odds with their now always present selves, while others find that they sometimes wind up in a middle ground where certain parts of their lives fit while others might not. On some rare occasions, a phenomenon known as "convergence" occurs where the two personas find themselves operating as an almost third, combined identity.
- PB change requests should be submitted here. You must have mod approval before changing everything over. You are allowed up to 3 changes during your time at the community—reverting back to a previously used PB does not count against this limit.
- You may change your character's CV once. Doing so means you will go through the application process again
- We have a Discord server, but joining is not mandatory for participation.
